Prakash Bhattrai , PhD

President

Dr. Prakash Bhattarai is currently acting as President of Centre for Social Change. Dr. Bhattarai has 15 years of professional and leadership experience on issues surrounding human rights, democracy, peacebuilding, development, migration, gender based violence, and youth, and has been associated with Youth Action Nepal, Association of Youth Organizations in Nepal, Collective Campaign for Peace, and MS Nepal. Over the past seven years, his work is more focused on research, study, assessment, and evaluation of peacebuilding, security, violence prevention, community mediation, and youth and gender related projects with his association with various organizations in Nepal and abroad including United Nations Development Programme (UPDP)/ Armed Violence Reduction and Strengthening Community Security (AVRSCS), International Organization for Migration (IOM), Search for Common Ground (SFCG), Catholic Relief Services Philippines, Friends for Peace Nepal, The Asia Foundation (TAF), and Alliance for Peace /Governance Facility. Dr. Bhattrai holds a doctorate in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Otago, New Zealand (2014). Prakash also holds Master’s degrees in Population Studies (Tribhuvan University, Nepal, 2005) and in Peace Studies (University of Notre Dame, USA, 2010), and has been a visiting scholar (April-June 2013) at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University, Sweden. He has published articles and working papers on issues surrounding youth, migration, and politics and the peace processes in Nepal and Philippines.
